Monthly salary to hourly: the formula and a quick table

To compare prices, job offers or side gigs, you need your pay per hour. Here is how to convert a monthly or yearly salary, with tables you can read straight off. The numbers work in any currency.

The formulas

hourly = monthly salary ÷ (workdays per month × hours per day)

hourly = yearly salary ÷ (weeks per year × hours per week)

Two conventions are common for a full-time month:

If you work six days a week or long shifts, use your own numbers. The difference adds up quickly.

Before tax or after?

These tables use gross pay, the figure on your contract. For deciding whether something is worth buying, the rate after tax is more useful, because that is the money you spend. Multiply any hourly figure by your take-home percentage. See how to find your take-home percentage.
